Reports of methadone-associated arrhythmia on the rise

KEY POINT

Reports of methadone-associated arrhythmia have substantially increased over the past decade, according to FDA data, with ventricular arrhythmia and cardiac arrest cited as the most frequently reported methadone-related adverse events. Patients with HIV who are also taking antiretrovirals may be at particular risk due to drug interactions.
